Thriller oh Thriller

Michael Jackson re-released Thriller this month! I realize that the man himself is beyond bizarre, and that is hard to look past. However, the man does know how to deliver a killer pop song.

I talk a lot about Brian Wilson and his influence on pop music…but I must say that I personally credit Michael Jackson to a lot of what is going on with the current generation of pop and R&B. Not to mention the fact that he basically single handedly started the concept of theatrical music videos. It’s not all a good thing of course, as I also credit MJ for the origin of commercial superstars, through world tours, product endorsements and all the evil that comes along with making an artist a “brand”. That being said, I don’t think Justin Timberlake would ever have been “bringing sexy back” if Michael Jackson had never released Thriller and changed pop music forever.

Or maybe I am just bias because I did a dance to “Thriller” in a dance recital and still remember each and every move and “Remember the Time” was my middle school graduation song!?! hahah

Thus, I am declaring the album of the week “Thriller” with a special long distance dedication: “Wanna be Starting Something” (which I have listened to at least 6 times today). So, I leave you with a few words of wisdom:

“Lift your head up high
and scream out to the world:
I know I am someone,
and let the truth unfurl.
No one can hurt you now
because you know what's true.
Yes, I believe in me
so you believe in you.
Help me sing it:
Ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa,
ma ma se, ma ma sa, ma ma coo sa.”
